Coronavirus Covid-19 FAQ

coronavirus covid-19 faq

All you need to know about Coronavirus

How coronavirus symptoms start?
The most common symptoms are fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and even death. The period within which the symptoms would appear is 2-14 days.

Coronavirus without symptoms, fever.
Main symptoms are fever, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath. However, it’s important to understand that it doesn’t have to start with a fever. Because it could be so mild, something like a cold, but then condition can deteriorate into fever, body aches, chills, something like the flu.

What coronavirus does to your body?
It first infects the cells lining your throat, airways and lungs and turns them into "virus factories" that spew out huge numbers of new viruses that go on to infect yet more cells.

Mild disease
Covid-19 is a mild infection for eight out of 10 people who get it and the core symptoms are a fever and a cough.

Severe disease
If the disease progresses it will be due to the immune system overreacting to the virus. Those chemical signals to the rest of the body cause inflammation. Inflammation of the lungs is called pneumonia.

Coronavirus versus Flu

Why coronavirus is worse than flu?
While the exact death rate is not yet clear, the evidence so far does show the disease kills a larger proportion of people than the flu (and it’s particularly lethal for people older than 80). Currently, there is no Covid-19 vaccine to combat it. Epidemiologists say that up to 60 percent of the world’s adult population could end up catching this virus.

Why coronavirus is so dangerous?
Biologically, it behaves differently than the flu. It takes one to 14 days for people with Covid-19 infection to develop symptoms (5 days is the median). For the flu, it’s around 2 days. That potentially gives people more time to spread the illness symptomatically before they know they are sick.

How coronavirus spreads?
The covid-19 virus is airborne, circulates through droplets in the air spread by coughing or sneezing, and enters the body through the mouth, eyes or nose. It can remain viable on surfaces for hours to days.

Covid-19 transmission
There are simple things you can do to help keep yourself and others healthy.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Is it safe to travel in Coronavirus outbreak?
People at higher risk for severe disease are older adults and people of any age with serious chronic medical conditions (such as heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes). CDC recommends that travelers at higher risk for COVID-19 complications avoid all cruise travel and nonessential air travel.

Coronavirus can you go out

Is it safe to go shopping during the Coronavirus pandemia?
Opting for a delivery service might be better, especially if you're at a higher risk of getting very ill from COVID-19.
According to Dr. Wiant "Those (who are) not high-risk can go to the store but should practice good personal hygiene. To help protect the elderly and sick, lower risk individuals may want to offer to get groceries or other necessary supplies for them."
Can i go for a walk outside in Coronavirus peak?
Unless local guidelines instruct otherwise, fresh air and outdoor exercise are allowed – though it's important to keep some distance between yourself and others. The coronavirus is thought to spread primarily through close contact between people – within about six feet.

Can coronavirus live on clothes?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the coronavirus is usually transmitted through respiratory droplets (from an infected person sneezing or coughing) rather than through fomites, objects and materials that when contaminated can transfer disease. However, the CDC notes that evidence suggests that the novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials, which includes clothing.

Can coronavirus live on surfaces?
People could catch COVID-19 by touching contaminated surfaces or objects – and then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

Most common questions about Covid-19

Can coronavirus be spread through food?
Current evidence on other coronavirus strains shows that while coronaviruses appear to be stable at low and freezing temperatures for a certain period, food hygiene and good food safety practices can prevent their transmission through food.

How long is Covid-19 incubation period?
The “incubation period” means the time between catching the virus and beginning to have symptoms of the disease. Most estimates of the incubation period for COVID-19 range from 1-14 days, most commonly around five days. These estimates will be updated as more data become available.

What about covid-19 recovery time?
Using available preliminary data, the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease.
